Wichita: LHP Richard Salazar (5-6, 3.06) - Salazar last worked on 8/17 vs. Sioux Falls, allowing one run and just one hit in seven innings while taking a no-decision. Salazar is 2-1 with a 2.70 ERA at home and is 0-0 in two appearances against Lincoln.

Lincoln: RHP Brian Campbell (9-4, 4.15) - Campbell last worked on 8/18 at St. Paul, allowing no runs in six innings to earn the win. He is 7-2 with a 3.81 ERA on the road in 11 starts, and is 0-0 in one appearance vs. Wichita.

The Starters:

Wichita: RHP Gustavo Mata (4-6, 4.06) - Mata last worked on 8/6 at Lincoln, allowing one earned run in six innings of work while taking a no-decision. He is 2-3 with a 3.54 ERA on the road this season and is 1-1 against St. Paul in four starts. Mata missed his last start due to an abscess tooth.

Thursday and Friday’s games will not be carried on 1410AM KGSO, making room for the semi-final and championship games of the 74th annual NBC World Series. The Wingnuts will open a three-game series against St. Paul tonight. You can catch the St. Paul broadcast by going to the league website www.americanassociationbaseball.com

I will continue to post the pitchers and lineups for the games each of the next two nights.

…by the way, wichita is still very much in the playoff race. while the division is probably out of reach at this point, the wingnuts are only 2.5 games back of lincoln and sioux city for the wild card. obviously the wingnuts will need sioux falls to continue to play well and win the second half outright, but there is no reason to simply give up…

…nine games are left in the season, and the only team wichita really has to ‘catch’ is sioux city. if the wingnuts can do that, while staying within three games of lincoln, they would control their own destiny heading into the final weekend of the season, assuming sioux falls can take care of their own business…

…if you’ve followed the team all year, don’t allow the sweep in sioux falls to make you think the season is over, because reality would indicate the total opposite. now’s the time to support the team in hopes of that big winning streak we’ve all been waiting for. whether you’re a player, family member, fan, broadcaster, or beat writer, now’s the time to rally around good thoughts and find a way to get it done…
